FIELD DAY 2006 , COFFEYVILLE AREA AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

 WR0CV

Amateur radio operators from Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma took to the field on Saturday June 24 , 2006. This was the Coffeyville's Club celebration of their half century as an ARRL Affiliated Club. The operation was setup at Pfister Park on Big Hill in Coffeyville.

Despite the summer heat of late June in Southeast Kansas , the antennas went up quickly , due to a large participation by club members and guests. The antennas were simple wire antennas. The main theme of Field Day for our club was "Have Fun".

We were on the air as soon as the event started. We had a generator on loan to us from Montgomery County Emergency Management. Jim Miller the E.M. Dir. (KC0WAA) arranged for the generator and took a turn at operating the Field Day station.

It was a phenomenal success as a family event and a demonstration of our true emergency preparedness. Wilber Schwatken (KC0TLC) helped make it a family event , by bringing the "smoke house" for the kids. It taught them a valuable lesson in how to keep themselves and their family's safe in a fire situation. He even cooks a pretty mean hamburger !!

The operation by our newest amateurs was something to behold indeed !! We were proud to see how well trained they already were and how proficient they became during the event. They are a true asset to the club and amateur radio in general.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Montgomery County Officials and the City of Coffeyville for their continued support of this event.  A special thanks to the Coffeyville Journal for their continued coverage of this event.

Our goals were met and exceeded in demonstrating our state of emergency readiness and just plain old GOOD CLEAN FUN FOR ALL !!    Thank you one and all and we hope to see you again in 2007 !!
