Field Day 2016

June 25th & 26th

INDEPENDENCE & COFFEYVILLE AMATEUR

RADIO CLUB - FIELD DAY 2016

Question: what do a climbing harness, a retired ambulance, hamburgers, and a commercial broadcast transmission station have in common? Answer: you would find all of them at the Montgomery County Amateur Radio Field Day!

This year, nearly two-dozen amateur radio operators (hams) and guests met to participate in the American Radio Relay Leagues official Field Day weekend. This annual event serves two main purposes: to allow amateur radio operators to exercise their equipment under field conditions, and to promote the hobby of amateur radio through contesting and increased public exposure.

The Coffeyville Amateur Radio Club (WRMG/WRCV) and the Independence Amateur Radio Club (NID) combined forces this year to host a countywide ARRL Field Day event for all hams in Montgomery County. The event was held at the NID Clubhouse, located on the site of the KIND commercial broadcast station near Elk City State Park in Independence.

For the second year in a row, the Montgomery County Mobile Emergency Operations Center was on hand to provide hams with additional communications resources. The Montgomery County Emergency Manager, Mr. Shaun Wallace also was on hand to participate in the Field Day event. Additional special thanks goes to Mr. Andy Taylor of the Montgomery County Chronicle for providing press coverage of the event.

The ARRL Field Day event is celebrated annually on the last full weekend of June. For additional information about ham radio, please see the resources available at mgarc.org or at arrl.org.

We look forward to seeing you at next years Field Day 2017 !
